Individual Psychotherapy in Riyadh (In-Person and Online)

Individual psychotherapy offers a professional space to understand distress, explore emotions and recurring patterns, and work toward changes that fit your needs. The work can begin with a concern affecting you now while also considering the wider context of your life and past experiences.

Dr. Ali Al Farhan works from a psychodynamic perspective, considering how symptoms may relate to emotional experience and patterns in relationships with oneself and others. This approach does not assume that every difficulty has a single cause. Instead, it supports a shared understanding of what is happening, what may be maintaining the difficulty, and what could change.

When might individual therapy help?

Therapy may be useful when you want to understand recurring feelings or patterns, or when psychological difficulties affect relationships, work, or daily life. Topics may include:

  • Persistent anxiety, panic attacks, and difficulty managing stress.
  • The effects of painful experiences or trauma, including feeling unsafe or constantly on alert.
  • Relationship difficulties, fear of rejection, attachment concerns, and recurring conflict.
  • Low mood, self-esteem concerns, and difficulty making decisions.
  • Emotional or behavioral patterns that persist despite efforts to change them.

Suitability and treatment goals are considered after understanding your needs and assessing the situation. This list is not a diagnosis and does not guarantee a particular outcome.

How I work with you

We begin with what is troubling you now and explore the feelings, meanings, and expectations connected to it. We pay attention to patterns in how you relate to yourself and others, and how they may have developed, without reducing the present to the past or assuming a ready-made explanation. We agree on relevant goals and review progress as the work continues.

The aim is not to provide a ready-made answer for every situation. It is to develop understanding that helps you recognize options, regulate emotions, and make decisions that better reflect your needs and values.

What happens in sessions?

  1. Understanding your concerns: We discuss what led you to seek support, its impact on your life, and what you hope will change.
  2. Setting goals: We identify realistic priorities and clarify what can be addressed in therapy.
  3. Exploration and therapeutic work: We consider relevant emotions, experiences, relationships, and recurring patterns.
  4. Reviewing progress: We look at what is changing, what remains difficult, and whether the approach needs adjustment.

The pace and duration of therapy depend on the nature of the difficulty, the goals, and the person's response. The number of sessions cannot be determined accurately before the situation is understood.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a diagnosis before starting therapy?

Not necessarily. You can begin by discussing what you are experiencing and what support you need. The clinician can then consider whether a diagnostic assessment would be useful.

Are sessions only about the past?

No. We begin with current difficulties and may explore earlier experiences when they help explain present feelings or patterns, while keeping attention on what can change now.

How do I know whether online therapy is right for me?

It depends on your needs, the nature of the concern, and whether you can access a private space. If you are unsure, ask before booking so the options can be discussed.
