Psychodynamic Psychotherapy
Psychodynamic psychotherapy does not approach anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties as isolated symptoms only. Rather, it seeks to understand the psychological meaning behind them: What keeps repeating? What is being avoided? Which feelings are difficult to tolerate? And how is the present connected to earlier experiences?
In this type of therapy, the goal is not simply to receive ready-made advice, but to develop a deeper understanding of yourself. You may notice that you return to the same patterns in relationships, fear closeness, become intensely attached, get angry and then withdraw, or feel guilty even when you have done nothing wrong. These patterns are often not random; they usually have roots, meanings, and psychological functions.
Who Is Psychodynamic Therapy Suitable For?
Psychodynamic therapy is suitable for individuals who feel that their difficulties cannot be resolved through direct advice alone, or who notice recurring patterns in their anxiety, relationships, choices, or emotions. It is also suitable for those who wish to gain a deeper understanding of themselves and the way they relate to others.
What Happens in the Sessions?
Sessions begin by understanding what you are currently going through, then gradually expand to explore recurring patterns in your life, the way you regulate your emotions, and your relationship with yourself and others. You will not be pressured to talk about anything you do not wish to discuss, and you will not be judged. The therapeutic work takes place calmly and at a pace that feels appropriate for you.
The Therapeutic Aim
The aim is not to remove all pain from life, but to help you understand yourself more deeply, reduce the control of old patterns, and expand your ability to choose rather than repeat.
